Noontime Sports


Courtesy of the Nichols College sports information department, here’s this evening’s release from the men’s lacrosse game:

DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Macaulay Gillis (Northborough, Mass.) scored his third goal of the game with 1:20 remaining in overtime to lift the Nichols College men’s lacrosse team to a 10-9 win over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Vendetti Field.

Freshman Chris Litchfield (Burlington, Mass.) also tallied three goals as the Bison snapped their two-game losing skid and improved to 4-8 (1-5 CCC). Gillis also handed out a pair of assists to increase his team-leading point total to 41. Senior Nicholas Kokich (Jackson, N.J.) recorded a goal and an assist.

Sophomores John Castellano (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Connor McKeon (Larchmont, N.Y.) each potted three goals to lead the Colonels (7-6, 1-4 CCC). Castellano also picked up three assists while junior Connor Arnold (Clifton Park, N.Y.) notched…

The Inscriber

The Los Angeles Lakers began the night in the thick of the playoff chase for the eighth and final seed in the Western Conference.

With the Lakers leading the Utah Jazz by a half games for the eighth spot, all eyes were focused on earning a crucial victory tonight against an always tough Golden State Warriors squad.

By the end of the night, with victory sealed, the Lakers’ mindset shifted dramatically: how to move on without shooting guard Kobe Bryant.

The future Hall of Fame shooting guard suffered a devastating torn Achilles with roughly three minutes remaining in the contest while attempting to drive past Warriors forward Harrison Barnes.

It was the third time in the second half that Bryant appeared to injure himself in the second half. Lakers’ head coach Mike D’Antoni opted to keep Bryant in the game even though it was rather obvious the guard…
